Oil Pulling Sounds Really Gross

Ok, I read about this several times and people really seem to be hooked on it. It sounded really disgusting and I thought to myself I’m not going to do this, but then I started this blog. Now I feel obligated and I will tell you my story.

The stories I have heard about oil pulling and oral health, along with overall health is compelling. Here’s what Wikipedia has to say.

It goes like this. Scoop a heaping teaspoon of solid organic coconut oil, like you’re going for a midnight ice cream snack. Well maybe dial it back a little. Add a drop of essential oil, pop it in your mouth and go! Swish and swish for about 15 minutes. Then spit it out! Not in the sink!!! That will clog your drains. Spit in a paper cup? The trash?

Reports of whiter teeth, healthier gums, and better overall health.

Ugh, now it’s my turn I’m not looking forward to this…

I scooped a teaspoon size glob of coconut oil in my mouth along with a drop of peppermint. I swished it around. It was thick and heavy for the first few moments. Then as it warmed up it became much more liquid and swished easier. I was able to do it for a minute but then my gag reflex took over. Well that didn’t work the way I hoped it would.

Still the next day I tried again. I thought maybe it’s just a little mind over matter. I already have been using coconut oil, salt, and baking soda with essential oils of course as toothpaste, so it really isn’t far from what I’m already used to having in my mouth.

No go. Tried it again and it was worse than the first time, but I’m a wimp about new textures. Good luck to you! I’m going to stick with my toothpaste.
